Welcome to MonkeySource, an online tool for managing all aspects of collaborative software development projects. We're awfully glad you decided to stop by. If you're already keen on what this is all about,
come on in
. If this is your first time here, allow us to explain what MonkeySource is... and, perhaps more importantly, what it is not.
MonkeySource is
not
...
...an open source development community. The keepers of MonkeySource are very fond of the open source concept and movement; heck, the more willing we are to share the successes and pitfalls we've encountered - and to provide each other a sound structure to build additional development upon - the more powerful and productive we all are, and the more rapidly our respective clients and employers benefit from a global base of knowledge and experience. Everybody wins. But let's face it: at the end of the day, we each have at least one mouth to feed - if not several.
...a code library. For some of the same reasons, we naturally advocate maintaining a library of reusable code, but this tool is not intended to store your code or make it publicly available to others. That's mostly a legal issue; it'd be a full-time job trying to ascertain whether you're exposing someone's intellectual property to the world, and we're just not up for it.
...an end user help desk. This tool will not allow users of your application or system to submit bug reports or feature requests. But if y'all ask real nice, a future release may include an API allowing any customizable / configurable help desk application to feed the Monkey, so to speak.
...a pet store. If you're intent on actually purchasing a monkey (or even renting one), you're in the wrong place.
MonkeySource
is
...
...an enterprise-viable collaborative project management tool, structured around a typical software development life cycle. Although a team of one can often accomplish programmatic miracles, MonkeySource allows organizations of any size - often comprised of complete strangers - to track software projects from one version to the next, stepping through each phase of development: all the way from envisionment to deployment.
...a code packaging / distribution tool. By defining promotion paths specific to each project, MonkeySource enables developers to easily maintain a distinction between development, test, and production environments, and to schedule or manually trigger movement of code from one environment to the next as a project progresses from one phase of the life cycle to the next.
...an online dating service. Find your soul mate and live happily ever... just kidding. But if you do end up marrying someone you met on this site, be sure to tell us. 'Cause Fate's funny already, but that would be downright bizarre.
